Children's Book Proposal Submissions
We intend the following to provide an informative, encouraging note aimed at getting your submission read and appreciated by an editor. All Tricycle Press submissions are considered on an individual basis, although a personalized response is often not possible due to the volume of submissions we receive. Please note that we do accept simultaneous submissions.
- DO NOT SEND ORIGINALS OR YOUR ONLY COPY OF ANYTHING. We are not responsible for lost submissions.
- Include an SASE of appropriate size and postage.
- Allow up to 24 weeks for a reply.
- Be sure your work is appropriate for us. Familiarize yourself with our list by going to bookstores, libraries, or right here on our website (www.tenspeed.com). We encourage you to request our catalog by mailing a 9 x 12 envelope with five first-class stamps (no checks or cash, please).
- Correspondence regarding status of manuscripts should be conducted by mail-no email or phone calls, please.
- We do not accept electronic or faxed proposals.

Board Books: Infant to 3
Complete text required. Include illustration ideas only if necessary for understanding text.
Picturebooks: Ages 3 and up
Complete text required. Include illustration ideas only if necessary for understanding text. Both fiction and non-fiction accepted.
Novels for Young Readers: Ages 8 to 12
If your manuscript is in chapters, please submit two to three sample chapters; otherwise one-third to one-half of the manuscript is usually sufficient. Also submit a table of contents or outline.
Real-Life Books: Ages 3 to 12
(to help kids understand themselves and their world)
Depending on length, one-third to one-half of the manuscript is usually sufficient. If written in chapters, please submit two to three, along with a table of contents or outline.
